M.S. in Infectious Disease and Global Health
One year program trains experts in the investigation of infectious agents and diseases they inflict around the globe.
The Master’s Program in Infectious Disease and Global Health (MS-IDGH) at Cummings School addresses a critical need. Emergence of new or increasingly virulent infectious agents, antimicrobial resistance, and the risk of deliberate dissemination of biothreat agents are serious evolving threats to human health. These threats have become a major focus for research institutions, and for disease surveillance, investigation, and control by governments and international agencies. Our holistic curriculum  also provides training in many other disciplines related to infectious diseases.

Research Areas

  • Animal model development
  • Bacterial diseases
  • Biosafety
  • Development of vaccines, immunotherapies & diagnostics
  • Fungal diseases
  • Global Health
  • Host-pathogen interaction
  • Immunity to infectious agents

  • Public health
  • Viral diseases
What Makes us Different?
  • Experienced faculty with impressive expertise  with human and zoonotic infectious agents who have attracted over $150 million in funding from federal and industry sources in the last 20 years.
  • Well-rounded curriculum provides in-depth understanding of the major infectious disease threats to human health integrated with comprehensive training in laboratory techniques, including a course on animal models.
  • State-of-the-art, including an on-site Regional Biocontainment Laboratory (BSL-3 facility), where students master techniques in research, diagnosis, immunotherapy, molecular biology, microbiology, and disease emergence.
  • Excellent post-graduate career placement rates, and admissions success to those seeking doctoral level programs.
